The first charging station for electric vehicles in Pakistan has been set up and activated in Islamabad.
According to the details, the charging station was activated after the supply, installation and commissioning of the first electric vehicle (EV) charger for PSO.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Science and Technology Pir Salman Rushdie termed the move as a welcome development for the country, which will soon see the launch of electric vehicles on the roads.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Science and Technology said that Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had announced the launch of the stations in a tweet last week, adding that the inauguration of electric vehicle charging stations was another goal of the Ministry of Science and Technology. However, it will be inaugurated by Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub.
The Federal Minister also said that only one per cent duty would be levied on the establishment of manufacturing units of electrical vehicles in Pakistan. The Ministry of Science and Technology is working on a policy to convert vehicles to batteries in future.
